Kate Spera

DONA certified, Rebozo certified

Kate became a DONA Trained Birth Doula in November 2018. She completed Labor Support and Lactation Workshops with Gerri Ryan and Lisa Simpkins. She also attended the BEC Professional Doula Series and observed a HypnoBirthing course series. Kate found the BEC in 2017 after seeking local community resources for her challenging pregnancy. HypnoBirthing introduced Kate to the role of a doula; she found herself craving this kind of support, as family and friends were far away. Kate says, “my doula’s participation during the pregnancy and birth of my son was one of the greatest gifts my partner and I received.”

Kate realized during the postpartum period that not many friends or new moms she met had had the same gift of a doula during their pregnancy and birth experience. Kate is passionate about this time in a woman’s life because it is one of the most vulnerable. Kate believes that with another woman’s support, this is a moment when a mother is able to empower herself and build her self-esteem. A new mother carries this with her and for everyone’s life she touches. “It is very fulfilling for me to support and encourage other women on this beautiful journey.”

*While the professional birth and postpartum doulas listed on the website are carefully screened and selected by the Birth Education Center, they are not employees. All doulas invest in the program by paying a yearly listing fee. By entering into contract with your doula, you do so at your own risk. The doulas are responsible for the means and methods for providing non-medical support to families, within their scope of practice.
