Oh My God I’m Pregnant, Now What?

  • Have you recently found out you’re pregnant and don’t know where to start?
  • Is the information floating around online regarding childbirth overwhelming you?
  • Are you unsure what kind of birth experience you want for yourself and your baby?
  • Does the unsolicited advice you receive from friends and family giving only make you more confused?
  • Do you wish there were short, concise lessons that boiled down the most important things you need to know about pregnancy and childbirth?

When you’re pregnant for the first time it can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s unplanned. Since you’ve never really had to think about pregnancy, labor, and childbirth before, knowing where to start can be daunting. Perhaps you’re experiencing some fear and apprehension facing the unknowns that lie ahead of you.

Even if you were trying to become pregnant and are excited about it all, you may still be having some challenges figuring out what the most important things to focus on are. You probably have a ton of questions but knowing how to prioritize them might be bogging you down.

Fortunately, I understand what you’re feeling and have designed a class with you specifically in mind.

It’s Normal to Feel Overwhelmed

There is so much change happening as your body begins growing this baby. Those changes are not only physical, but also mental and spiritual. The moment you find out you’re pregnant your life changes overnight, quite literally, so it’s natural to feel overwhelmed by this momentous shift.

No matter if you’re really excited to be pregnant or not quite sure how you feel about it yet, you are probably feeling a certain amount of overwhelm about what lies ahead of you. Here at the Birth Education Center (BEC), we have a term for it: PABO (Pregnancy And Birth Overwhelm). After all, in a few short months, you’ll be bringing a new human into the world and be the one responsible for taking care of it for the foreseeable future.

While it’s fantastic that the internet and social media has so much to offer in terms of resources, whether it be birthing blogs, vlogs or videos; prenatal nutrition and supplements, exercise, breathing and pushing techniques, opinions on how and where to birth, etc., it can all feel like A LOT. How do you know where to begin? And how do you know what the most important things are to focus on?

When you run online searches on pregnancy, it’s common to be bombarded by so many resources that you’re left feeling paralyzed, uncertain which direction to begin your fact-finding expedition. Word of mouth within your community can be a good place to start, but it’s not always easy to get consensus.

Fortunately, I have developed a class that boils down what you need to know and filters out the rest. You need to feel supported and it’s up to you to find what makes YOU feel that way.

The BEC Mini-Workshop Will Teach You The Important Things To Know About Pregnancy

Having assessed the vast majority of the resources available online for the newly pregnant person, I have concluded that while there’s a lot of redundancy on certain subjects, most of the time other equally (and I would argue more) important basic tenets are completely ignored and disregarded. And whether or not these important subjects are acknowledged and addressed can have a big impact on the decisions you make, which in turn will affect the trajectory of your pregnancy and birth experience.

So what’s my solution to PABO?  I have distilled down what I believe to be the 8 most important things anyone who is pregnant and looking for guidance needs to know, all in one concise workshop.  What I love about BEC Mini-Workshop is that it cuts through the noise and prioritizes what the most important things about pregnancy really are. And once you know what they are, you’ll have the peace of mind that will make the rest of your pregnancy more enjoyable. These are the top things I get asked about in early phone conversations, and what make the most difference to the pregnant person when they get a handle on these EARLY.

This workshop provides tangible action steps that will guide you along a path where you feel heard and in charge of your pregnancy and your child’s birth. Since you can watch the workshop in just over an hour, you no longer need to feel overwhelmed by the myriad sources of information online. The BEC Mini-Workshop provides the ideal roadmap to navigate your pregnancy guided by love and confidence.

Your birth choices are not a matter of having a natural birth, getting an epidural or signing up for a cesarean. YOU have options and many choices to make so that your baby can have the best birth experience with you. Understanding what those options and choices are, allows you to come to a place of empowerment and prevents birth trauma. THAT is my mission with all that we do at the Birth Education Center. You will feel MORE in control(of an uncontrollable natural process) when you are educated.

After years of teaching in-person birth education classes in San Diego, I realized after the pandemic hit that we could offer our classes online so they could be accessible to any pregnant person, regardless of where they lived. I have created this course to be accessible online, so no matter where you are in the country or the world you can access this invaluable information at your convenience and your own timeline.

Having all of this information at your fingertips will ensure your experience provides what you and your baby need to feel safe, connected, and empowered.

But you may still be wondering if the BEC Mini-Workshop is the right option for you.

We’ve already signed up for the birth education class offered by my hospital. Won’t that teach us everything we need to know?

Not necessarily. While a childbirth class offered by a hospital will provide a lot of valuable information about the specifics of that facility’s standard scope of practice, it may not necessarily align with the type of experience you’re hoping to have. Our mini-class may be the impetus for you to reevaluate the choices you’ve made up until now and make sure they’re in line with your vision for this birth.

I’ve already had a baby (or babies). What will the mini-workshop offer me?

If this isn’t your first baby, then you undoubtedly learned a lot the first time and should feel a sense of accomplishment for the knowledge you already have under your belt. But there might be more for you to learn this time. Each pregnancy gives you the chance to discover new things and make different choices that better serve you and your baby. Perhaps you’re examining your previous experience(s) and considering how things might be different this time.
